Happy's Tree Service: Working Pinellas County Since 1989

Thirty-seven years of tree work in one county, family owned and operated. An ISA Certified Arborist on staff, and an estimate with no surprises in it.

“This was the second time I'd hired Happy's to take down some dead trees and I couldn't be happier with the job they did. First off they gave me a great price for the amount of work I needed done.”

Most tree companies in this county are younger than the trees they are cutting. We are not. Happy’s Tree Service has worked Pinellas County since 1989, thirty-seven years in one county, which is long enough to have taken a tree off the same address twice.

That is the whole pitch, and everything below is just the detail of what it buys you.

One county, done properly

We are based in Clearwater and we work Pinellas County. Not "Tampa Bay," not "central Florida", Pinellas. From Tarpon Springs down to Tierra Verde, and out onto every barrier island in between.

Staying inside one county is a deliberate limit, and it pays for itself in knowledge that cannot be faked. City after city here writes its own tree ordinance, and they genuinely disagree with each other: Gulfport’s threshold is six inches, Pinellas Park’s is four and a half, Clearwater protects ornamental trees from two inches, and Tarpon Springs protects cabbage palms at any size at all. A crew driving down from another county does not know that, and the homeowner is the one who pays the fine. We publish every jurisdiction we serve, with the code sections cited, because knowing them is part of the job.

A family business, and it still works like one

Happy’s has been family owned and operated since 1989, and it still works like a family business. The same family answers the phone, comes out to look at the tree, and is who you call afterwards if anything is not right.

That is worth stating plainly, because a tree job is a stranger with a chainsaw standing next to your house. Our estimate is true and honest: no hidden costs, no extras, no add-ons and no surprises. We’re fanatics about clean up. Those are not slogans we invented for a website; they are how this company has kept a phone ringing in the same county for thirty-seven years.

We will leave your investment in better care than when we showed up.

The right machine for the tree

A crane for the picks that need one. A spider lift for the tight side yards. Bucket trucks and man lifts for overhead work. A grapple truck for the wood and the brush, so the driveway is clear the same day. Which of them turns up at your house is decided by the tree, at the estimate.

The customer-facing consequence is simple: the method is chosen for your property, not for whatever happened to be on the truck. A tree with no drop zone, over a pool cage, between two houses, or behind a fifty-foot beach lot, is a crane pick rather than a "we can’t reach that."

There is more on each kind of job, and how it actually gets done, across everything we do.

An ISA Certified Arborist on staff

Not a subscription, not a consultant we call. An ISA Certified Arborist works here, and looks at the tree before we put a number on it.

That is what lets us tell you when a tree does not need to come down, which is genuinely often, and which is a conversation a salesperson on commission will not have with you. It also means a written assessment on this site is signed by somebody who is accountable for it. Meet the arborist.

What we do

Tree removal, hazardous and storm-damaged tree work, crane-assisted removal, pruning and structural work, palm maintenance, stump grinding, cabling and bracing, tree health and risk assessment, lightning protection, land clearing, storm response, and the permit paperwork that goes with all of it, across every city in Pinellas County.

Frequently asked questions

How long have you been in business? Since 1989. Thirty-seven years, all of it in Pinellas County.

Who will actually be at my house? A Happy’s crew, and an ISA Certified Arborist on staff looks at the tree before anybody puts a number on it.

Is there really an arborist, or is that a marketing line? There is an ISA Certified Arborist on staff, and they assess the tree before the estimate. It is also why we will sometimes tell you not to remove a tree.

Are you licensed and insured? Yes, and we would rather you verified it than took our word for it. See licensed, insured and trained for what to ask for and how to check it, on us or on anyone else.
